That would be Gavin DeGraw’s Chariot. That album helped me feel…the lyrics, the instruments, his voice! It all helped. I honestly think as a teenager we seek to find ourselves and introducing ourselves to different things such as music, art, books, movies makes us feel as if we discovered it all on our own. It’s ours. No one else. Gavin DeGraw was that for me. Believe me, everyone heard of him. If you were a teen from 2004, you would have seen or heard of One Tree Hill. Gavin’s song I Don’t Want to be was the theme song. Instantly fell for him and before the social media craze took over my world, television was my way of finding out what was the latest in trends. Then it was on to the library, where I was ecstatic find Gavin DeGraw’s Chariot awaiting me after I placed a hold on it. The library was where I discovered Renee Olstead and gathered tons of romance novels. I was looking for something to entertain me and I found it. I think when I look back on all of my discoveries I found pieces of myself. Now I am doing it all over again, but instead of feeling like I am complete, I feel lost. Overwhelmed and burnt out, I am searching for something to entertain me and I don’t think I have the optimism of a quiet 15 year old. I now have the jaded realist mindset of a vocal 26 year old who wants to curl into herself until her problems go away. Listening to Chariot now still gets me going, but my body is slow and my mind feels weighted down. Looking for the new discoveries of my 20s is gonna take time and I am gonna need to take chances again, even though it scares the crap out of me.
So, winter break has hit my campus. No, we don’t have the unfortunate mishap of snow, but we do have the cold. If you live on the west coast in a warm climate, 50 degrees is horrible! Nonetheless, I have needed to keep myself occupied and what better way to do that then with music, books, tv/movies, YouTube, reading (Blogs and articles), and non-stop eating! Oh the joy!!
In December and a little in November, some great music dropped and I of course had to have a little listen of the new music. Some of it wasn’t for me, but others were just amazing. My taste tends to change due to my mood, so I did revert back to old faves.
D’Angelo Black Messiah
Carrie Underwood Little Toy Guns
Mark Ranson Feat. Bruno Mars Uptown Funk
Sam Smith Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Pentatonix PTX Vol. III and That’s Christmas to Me
The 1975 Self titled
Sam Hunt Montavallo
Iggy Azalea Beg for It
Taylor Swift / Beyonce / Mumford and Sons
Music: This is super easy for me since Thanksgiving has gone and past. Christmas music!! Here are just few of my faves: Christina Aguilera – My Kind of Christmas This was my album growing up! Her power and the upbeat of the song always got me into a festive mood. Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song Need I say more? No. This is the song I listen to when getting into the holiday spirit. Idina Menzel and Michael Buble – Baby It’s Cold OutSide This song and the video are awesome. I absolutely love this rendition. http://youtu.be/6bbuBubZ1yE Kelly Clarkson – Red Absolutely love Kelly and this album reaffirms that. Lady Antebellum – On This Winter’s Night This is one of my favorite groups and they have done a fantastic job on the songs for this album.
Also, One Direction came out with a new Album title Four. There seems to be a lot of people getting lazy with the titles. In my opinion I am going to automatically assume Beyonce when we bring up the album Four. Anyway, it is different. I haven’t really listen to the album in it’s entirety. I am slowly getting off the train right now. Also, favorite song right now is by Ella Henderson’ Ghost. Absolutely love it! She is an 18 year old from Britain. I have to say I feel like an unaccomplished shower singer. Lorde who is also 18 can out sing me with little to no help from autotune. Then again, Christina Aguilera and Fiona Apple were both young when they came into the game.
Movies/ TV Shows: Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 It was a great movie. I am still frustrated with Katniss in terms of Gale, but I understand where she can be confused, but honestly stop leading the boy on. Other than that, great movie. The Hanging Tree was a nice sentiment and I am glad that it is being noticed by people on the Billboard charts. The New Girl OMG. Julian Morris is so swoon worthy and the chemistry from Ryan (Julian Morris) and Jess (Zooey Deschenal) is amazing. Season 3 was not my favorite season, I feel like they could have did a better job of working with Jess and Nick. They had amazing chemisty, but they weren’t meant to be together. I feel like they are actually giving him a chance with Tran’s granddaughter. Yes! I know, Tran had a kid and eventually a grandchild! What! Also, Coach is becoming my fave. He balances the group out with realistic nature. It makes the show seem more relate-able to me. YouTube
So I have a love/hate with YouTube; it occupies my time to much out of the day, yet it brings me delight. Here are just a few that I liked.
Small Plates, The New York Times
Taylor Swift covers Vance Joy’s Riptide, BBC Radio 1

Books So we finally finished out book for our book club pick of the month with barely any participation. I am thinking I need to get of my lazy butt and create either a Facebook book club page or a Goodreads forum, because we barely had any participation in regards to a discussion. Anywho, we read the book The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Giaman, 2013. It was a good book. I loved some passages that were just beautifully written, but it was slow and it took me minute to actually like it.
I of course read some new adult books, although this time around they were not impressive so I went with my fall backs (Meaning my absolute faves):
Perfect Collision by Lina Andersson: I loved this book, because it gave a different perspective for someone dealing with autism, in the heroines case Asperger’s. She is unerringly quiet and apart of a loud family. Her father is apart of a motorcycle club, as well as the hero. It was a sweet story that didn’t takes place over a couple of years, so there wasn’t any insta-love, which made me very happy.
Currently Reading: Etiqutte Espionage by Gail Carriger. Only on page 3 though.
Health and Wealth: I am working on a fitness plan, so in other words, still lazy as per usual.
Blogs I liked:

Paramore’s The Final Riot concert CD – Haley has such a phenomenal voice and the original guys craft a concert cd that the group has yet to top.
Ella Henderson – Ghost – Girl can sing! It was just amazing and I love the freshness of the beat.
Currently reading Neil Gaiman’s book The Ocean at the end of the lane. I am bored by it though. Hopefully I can get into further before the book club discussion this weekend.
New Adult Romances that revolve around college – sometimes I forget that I didn’t have the stereotypical college experience (I.e. dating, drama, stress from school, and dorm living)
#Nerd (Hashtag series) by Cambria Hebert Released November 3rd, 2015
“Two people from completely different worlds are about to be thrown together…
In more ways than one.
She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn’t even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo’s relationship.
But that’s about to change.
It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.
Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.
Stick to your circle.
And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.”
Rae of Sunshine by Micalea Smeltzer Released November 25th, 2015
“Rae Wilder wants nothing but a do over—but life doesn’t work that way. She’s stuck living out the consequences of her actions. At times the burden feels unbearable.
College is supposed to be her second chance.
No one to know what she did.
Despite that, she has still vowed to avoid everyone and everything at all costs.
Unfortunately for her, an accidental run-in with the campus heartthrob, Cade Montgomery, derails that plan.
He’s determined to thaw the ice around her heart and expose the girl she used to be. He wants to show her that life is worth living for and that she really is a Rae of Sunshine. “
Glamour’s The Single Life – Hilarious! It really wasn’t like the single life I am living. Introverted and lacking friends with great dating profile information or even friends that I would actually go out with.
Health and Wealth –
Honestly it’s the holiday season and I knew that my pictures from the holiday photo session with my family would have issues, but jeez! I won’t post any on the blog of the family or myself, I feel that uncomfortable looking at them. In the past posts I have tried and failed on getting back in shape. I am not spending money for a trainer to motivate me, I can’t afford that. Money…yeah, my student loans are officially under way and they need to be paid. I qualify for the public loan forgiveness program, but it has put a little fire under me to make smart decision about how I spend my cash and where I put it (in the bank instead of someone else’s pocket. Silly me)
Still on a Taylor Swift kick. Loving her 1989 album. As soon as one song starts to wan in terms of my favorite, another takes over. Currently loving ‘Style’
I have been a bit busy and well just not interested in some of the music coming out. Everything tends to be on the same trend of pop and dance or even those trying to ride the folk train of groups such as Mumford and Sons. So, imagine my surprise of finding music that brings back nostalgia of good music.
Kacey Musgraves, Justin Timberlake, Chris Young, Renee Olstead, Cast from Nashville. These are the only ones I can name off my head, but they are the ones I keep replaying. I have been wanting to create smooth and playful playlists to listen to while studying. I have done that with the civil wars, Eli young band, and Mumford and sons. So I need a change. I am glad that I have started to get some artists who are bringing that back for me.
I don’t need to dance all the time, although I love it.
Just need to shoot the breeze…relax.
